THE AROEIRA COLLECTIVE
The Aroeira Collective takes care of and learns alongside Nature, the Cerrado biome, and the community. We are here to promote Health – and we do it by developing community practices of care inspired by Agroecology, Harm Reduction, Popular Education, and Anti-prohibitionist Feminism.
Our focus is to support individuals whose lives are marked by socio-economic, racial, and gender-based violence, exacerbated by prohibition and the war on drugs.
WHAT MOVES US
Being in contact with the Earth, restoring degraded areas, planting native seeds, and benefiting medicinal plants!
Learning, training, and developing new forms of learning and leadership based on Nature and Popular Education
Fighting for respect for the diversity of life, inspired by Human Rights and Earth Rights
Practicing care from the perspectives of Anti-prohibitionist Feminism
Being together, eye to eye, with hands and feet on the ground, caring, playing, telling stories, and sharing good food
WHO WE SERVE
The target audience of our actions includes people impacted by the prohibitionist structure in Brazil.
This includes sex workers, drug users, individuals who have gone through the penitentiary system, and people experiencing homelessness.
We also take into consideration the intersectionality of race and gender – a crucial factor in this context.
Our team is diverse and includes individuals impacted by prohibitionism – in other words, we work from within our own target audience. We have an internal organization that ensures these individuals are active members of the Aroeira Collective, occupying spaces of leadership and decision-making.
WHAT WE DO
Our activities are centered around weekly meetings.
Every Thursday, the Aroeira Collective gathers for activities such as ecological restoration through the implementation and management of Agroforestry Systems; production of natural and agroecological food and cosmetics; community experiences and interventions based on Popular Education and Urban Agriculture.
OUR TEAM
Talking about who is part of our Collective is a challenge because many people have walked with us. We are very pleased and grateful for each person who collaborated – and still collaborates – in opening our paths. Below, you can see who is currently part of our team.
OUR HISTORY
2018–2020
START
The Aroeira Collective was born in Brazil, in the Setor Comercial Sul of Brasília/DF, from a weekly intervention university project that used Urban Agriculture to contribute to the Mental Health of people experiencing homelessness, while addressing socio-economic, racial, and gender inequalities.

SEEDS
Since our formalization, the Aroeira Collective has been working on year-long journeys. In our I Agroecology and Harm Reduction Journey, we conducted a 46-meeting training program focused on improving the quality of life, and we provided scholarships for individuals in vulnerable situations to participate in the project's capacity-building activities.
2022
AROEIRA
GROWS
In the II Agroecology and Harm Reduction Journey, we conducted 47 training meetings, still focusing on improving the quality of life, Health, and Care. We continued to provide scholarships for individuals in vulnerable situations, dedicating ourselves to horizontalizing functions and responsibilities among all members of the collective.

WATERS ITS ROOTS
Today, we're going through our III Agroecology and Harm Reduction Journey - a series of training meetings based on our previous learning. We continue to dedicate ourselves to Health, Agroecology, and Harm Reduction. As a collective, we operate in an increasingly integrated manner and continue to strive for decentralized governance, balancing individual autonomy and collective action.
